Kgatleng region wants to spearhead professionalism

The Kgatleng Regional Football Association has invited Botswana Premiere League (BPL) Chief Executive Officer, Bennet Mamelodi, to be a guest of honour at a workshop to be held in Mochudi on June 30, 2012. This is according to the Communications Manager for the region, Tshwarelo Motsomi.
“As the Regional football governing body in Kgatleng we want Mamelodi to share with us modalities of turning professional at our level. This will include issues of administration, marketing, sponsorships and players. This could be at both club and regional level,” said Motsomi.
He indicated that in addition to both club and regional league committee members, who are expected to attend the event, other stakeholders such as the tribal authorities, council and district officers, have been invited to the workshop.
He said Kgatleng teams such as Mochudi Buffaloes and Modipane United in the National First Division Premier League, and Mochudi Centre Chiefs have also been invited to the workshop.
The Communications Manager said the aim of the workshop is to map and have a strategy for Kgatleng Football and it will, among others, address issues of Administration, Code of Conduct, Finance & Sponsorship, Marketing & Communication, Technical including referees, coaches, and the envisaged Youth League.
Motsomi said the newly elected committee members are also expected to be present and share their strategic plans. He added that, as the new committee, they want a complete overhaul on how Kgatleng regional football has been operating, by inviting more academics and professionals for mentorship. He said the regional governing body has courses for coaches, referees and youth in football.
“These things have never been done in Kgatleng and other regional football governing bodies and through the capacity building courses and workshops, we want to turn Kgatleng into a region of choice where football stars are sourced,” he said.
The new committee members were elected last month and for the first time, the teams in the district were given an opportunity to lobby for academics and professionals who can be part of the committee.
