Moyo promises better show next season

Almost two years ago, nippy striker Hendrick Moyo was one of the hottest properties in Botswana football due to his exploits at Premier League giants Extension Gunners.
He will best be remembered for the quickest opening goal ever to be scored at Lobatse Sports Complex on September 30 2010 when his side beat Gaborone United (GU) 2-1 in an entertaining game before a bumper crowd on that day.
Having arrived at Gunners in 2009, Moyo quickly won the hearts of Gunners’ supporters with some special goals which proved to be vital to the sleeping giants of Botswana football. He continued to terrorise local defenders with his pace and skill. Soon he was included in the national Under-23 where he continued to shine.
Towards the end of last year, there were reports that Moyo was not happy at Gunners and was headed for BMC to link up with his former coach Daniel ‘Chicco’ Nare. The move did not materialize but in January this year, he was once again in the news.
First it was reported that he had agreed terms with BDF XI but the army side pulled out after realizing that he had a running contract with Gunners. Ezinkomo ended up winning the race of signing the young lad on a three year contract. At the time when he joined BMC, Moyo was carrying an ankle injury which meant his debut would be delayed. While Gunners’ supporters cried over his departure, BMC supporters were celebrating knowing that they had landed a big star.
Those close to BMC thought that the days of not scoring were in the past and started imagining his combination with the lethal Kenanao ‘Flo’ Kgetholetsile. But it was never to be the case as Moyo has struggled to make an impression in BMC’s colours since making his debut in March. Some BMC supporters are even wondering whether it was worth spending thousands of Pula on him.
After what has been the most frustrating period in his three year spell in the Premier League, Moyo has warned that he will be back to his best next season.
“Watch me next season; I’ll be back to my best. People must know that when I arrived at BMC, I came with an injury which took time to heal. That’s the main reason I struggled to impress but the other thing is that both sides play different style of football,” said Moyo.
Currently, Moyo said that he is a bit disappointed with some BMC officials who seem to be losing patience with him. He understands that they (officials) were expecting a lot from him but he pleaded with them to give him another chance to impress.
Nare said that he knows what Moyo can offer once he is fully fit and he is hoping that next season he will deliver.
“I think he rushed back to playing though he has not fully recovered from his injury. The other issue is that I think he played under pressure to impress and that made him struggle. His issues off the field also affected his performance but I’ve no doubt that he’ll deliver next season,” said Nare.
On Moyo’s complaint that some of the officials seem to be losing patience on him, Nare said it should not come as a surprise to the speedy forward because there were big expectations when he was brought to the club.
