Tutume Police investigating two cases of arson

by Obusitse Kologwe
26-07-2012

Police in Tutume Village are investigating two separate incidents of arson in which two huts were burnt to ashes last week in Makuta and Tutume villages.

The Superintendent of Tutume Police Station, Commander Vusimuzi Jorowe, confirmed the incidents to The Telegraph on Monday.

“We received reports of the first incident at Makuta Village on the 14th of July. We arrested a 29-year-old Zimbabwean national who is currently helping us with investigations and he is currently in police custody,” he said.

Jorowe added that P2000 worth of goods perished in the fire and that the motive of the criminal incident is still unclear but police are still conducting investigations.

Touching on the second incident, Jorowe revealed that they also arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with the burning of a hut in Tutume Village on the 19th of July. He said that goods worth between about P2000 were lost in the fire.

“In the second incident, it appears the suspect, who is a Motswana, had a misunderstanding with the owner of the house and sneaked in the yard and lit the house to ashes. However, the suspect is not in custody as she has a young baby to take care of. She is also helping us with investigations,” he said.
