Warrant of arrest issued against Kgafela Kgafela II

by John Regonamanye
16-08-2012

Chief Kgafela Kgafela II could face the music in the next court session as the Paramount Chief of the Bakgatla continues to skip court proceedings, which he has apparently done twice in a row without plausible and convincing reasons forwarded.

Kgafela’s younger brother, Mmusi Kgafela, his uncle Bana Sekai and their tribesmen and defence attorney, Victor Ramalepa, informed the newly-appointed Regional Magistrate that they had not heard from Kgafela for sometime now.

“I have tried on several times to get through to him via his mobile phone but to no avail,” Ramalepa told the Broadhurst presiding magistrate, Mokwadi Chris Gabanagae, who was worried that, once again, Kgafela, for the second time, would not appear in court on assault charges while the rest pitched up.

Gabanagae warned the defence lawyer to ensure Kgafela attends the next session without fail.
“Yes, Your Worship,” retorted Gabanagae. “I will ensure that he attends.”

Yesterday (Wednesday), Kgafela was supposed to attend the Village Magistrate Court on another charge concerning non appearance at court but did not show up, prompting the presiding magistrate to yesterday issue a warrant of arrest against Kgafela.
Kgafela is believed to be in Moruleng, South Africa.
