Stanbic Bank appoints new Head of Legal

Stanbic Bank, which is a member of the Standard Bank Group, has appointed Siamisang Thokie Morolong to the post of Head of Legal and Company Secretary.

As Head of Legal, Morolong will be responsible for the implementation of appropriate legal frameworks, policies and processes and manage all aspects of legal risks in Stanbic Bank. She will ensure compliance to the industry regulator and laws of the country. She will also serve as secretary to the Board, where her duties will include advising the Board of Directors on Corporate Governance and ensuring adherence to best practice on all corporate governance matters.

?Says Christopher Gwere, the Head of Risk; “We welcome Morolong on board. Her expertise in the legal and risk fraternities is commendable. Having such high calibre personnel in the Bank can only improve our service delivery and help us live up to our mandate, of moving our clients forward.”

Morolong holds two Masters of Law (LLM) degrees from the University of London: London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of South Africa. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Botswana.

Morolong brings a wealth of experience to the bank from the field of law. She joins Stanbic Bank from the University of Botswana where she served as a Senior Lecturer in the Law Department. She has also served on various committees at the University and also as a guest lecturer and external moderator for the Institute of Development Management and the Botswana College of Agriculture.

Morolong currently sits on the Board of the Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) where she chairs the BURS Board Tender Committee. She has also contributed articles to a number of peer review journals, including the University of Botswana and Lesotho Law Journals.

“It is with great pleasure that I take up this appointment. I look forward to the challenge and making a contribution to the viability of the business,” says Morolong.
