Sebego unperturbed by alleged impending FIFA investigations

Former Botswana Football Association (BFA) President Tebogo Sebego says he will welcome any FIFA sanctioned investigation into his conduct should the football world governing body seek to do such.

Following FIFA’s decision to ban former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Kalusha Bwalya’s from all football related matters for two years, the world football governing body is allegedly sniffing around former FA Presidents.

It is said the football world governing body is sniffing around former presidents to flush out those suspected of having violated FIFA ethics by accepting personal benefits from banned former Asian Football Association President Mohamed Bin Hammam.

‘’It is not only Sebego who will be engaged in the investigation process. They are not selective as even those that did not benefit anything are crucial in assisting with the probe. Most of those that will be approached are former leaders,’’ a source told Sunday Standard.

With Bwalya executed, sources have revealed to Sunday Standard that the investigating team is set to touch down the country soon for a session with Sebego who was the BFA President during Bin Hammam’s tenure.

With investigations on the former and reigning presidents said to be resuming soon, Sebego said the developments are most welcome as they could reveal more on the inappropriate practices by some football leaders around the globe.

In an interview with Sunday Standard, Sebego said at some point football was under siege with bribery and corruption taking centre stage.

“There was a developing culture in football as some people relied only on football and I can only say we could observe that there was something going under the table with the secretive meetings that were staged at times. These predicaments mostly occurred when we were going for the polls,’’ the former BFA president told Sunday Standard.

He however said he is not afraid of any probe as he had lived a clean life during his tenure as President of the BFA and has never accepted any gift or bribe from anyone.

“I live a straight life and l will be very glad if they could investigate. I was vocal and this was due to the fact that I did not owe anybody. I suspect that some of those that accepted bribes were due to dependency on football as they had no mainstream jobs,’’ said Sebego.
