The newly formed Chess club, Ice Queens of Serowe, might not be winning medals at the moment, but they are constantly adding a new dimension to the set up of chess clubs.

The club, formed by former Botswana Chess federation executive member, Tshimologo Kolaatamo, has drawn up a plan that would, in all probability, ultimately see them conquer all and sundry.

The Botswana National Rugby Under-18 Boys team, “Young Vultures”, went, saw and conquered Swaziland in the first leg of the Confederation of African Rugby played at Somhlolo stadium last week.

Under the tutelage of Tosca Segaise and Craig Dube, the team dominated their Swazi counterparts, “Isihlangu”, and displayed lucid rugby movements. The “Young Vultures” won the game 23-20.

In his hey day, Desmond “Des” Molefhe was a darling with the Township Rollers and Zebras fans alike.

The Tlokweng born player was a match winner in his own right. His then coach, Freddy Mwila, admits that Molefhe was the first name to appear on his team list. Now his son, Kaone Molefhe, has just joined the team at which his father was such a hit.

Arguably the “whipping boys” of Botswana's St Louis Rugby league, EMG Gunners of Selebi-Phikwe last weekend showed that one who writes them off does that at their own peril. Gunners hammered a hapless BDF Sharks 20-9.

The Gaborone Special Support Group (SSG) dominated side, Wonder Sporting, defied all odds to bounce back into the Med Rescue First division league.

The team in Gold achieved this feat by coming second to Moshupa-based Kgabosetso Callies in the just ended first division playoffs.

The 2006 Orange Kabelano Charity Cup champions, Township Rollers, got a rude awakening from South African Premier Soccer League wonder boys, Silver Stars. Rollers got a 2-0 thrashing at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng, South Africa, last weekend.

Sir Seretse Khama Barracks based BDF Cheetahs last weekend consolidated their supremacy in Botswana rugby by walloping a sorry-looking Selebi-Phikwe based EMG Gunners 57-13 in Selebi-Phikwe.

Gunners, a soldier dominated rugby team, had vowed to get off to a winning start at the expense of Cheetahs. From the 3 games they have played so far, Gunners are still to register a win.

Selebi-Phikwe golf club’s Shane Granger won the Makgadikgadi golf open played in Sowa town.

This was the first time that Granger won a Botswana golf union tournament. The event was played on a 36 holes stroke play on the attractive Sowa golf club course.

Silver Stars new recruit, Phenyo “Mzambiya” Mongala, had a stormer against Township Rollers last weekend at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, in Phokeng, South Africa.

Mongala, who was playing against his former team for the first time since leaving the Botswana shores two months ago, was at his usual best after coming on as a second half substitute.
