0ver half a million Pula pledges for Miscellaneous

Gaborone, December 10: Vice President Lt. General Mompati Merafhe on Thursday (December 9) hosted a fundraising reception for Serowe-based Premier Soccer League outfit, Miscellaneous Sporting Club at his Official Residence in Gaborone.

In his remarks, Vice President Merafhe paid tribute to the team management for working tirelessly to ensure that the club gained promotion to the elite league, amid growing challenges such as lack of funds and other facilities. The Vice President, who is also the Patron of Miscellaneous noted that the major challenge would be to sustain the team’s Premier League status in the midst of challenges such as inadequate funding and other administrative costs.

He appealed to supporters to ensure that the team has a place in the elite league, adding that its recent run in the league was a “sign of good things to come”.

The Vice President noted that today’s football is a “money game as the teams need funds to purchase players, provide incentives, travel to honour away games and also meet other costs”.

He thanked sponsors such as Kwena Rocla for their continued support to the team, adding that the burden of responsibility should be shared to ensure the team’s stay in the league.

Team elder, Mr. Bernard Letsididi gave a brief background about the team, and noted that though it took over 50 years to reach the elite league, Miscellaneous remained the pride of Serowe.
He appealed for support to ensure the sustainability of the team.

For his part, Mr. Glen Ansell of Kwena Rocla said Miscellaneous should be seen as an investment for the future and expressed confidence that the team would maintain its Premier Soccer League status.
During the reception, the Vice President and 15 other individuals and companies, pledged a sum of P 516 000.
