A retired army general takes over as CEO at Aviation Authority

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Frank Ramsden, has appointed retired Major General Jefferson Gobuamang Tlhokwane as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB).

Tlhokwane retired from the Botswana Defence Force as Deputy Commander and Air Arm Commander in 2009.

Other than serving as a Board member of the CAAB since January 2009 until March this year, it is unclear what other experience the retired general brings to civil aviation other than military experience.

“General Tlhokwane’s appointment as the new CEO is a positive development for CAAB, particularly at this stage in the operations of the Authority,” a media statement issued this week read.

Tlhokwane holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. He joined the military in 1978.

The CAAB is responsible for the regulation of air transport and the provision of air navigation and air traffic services.
