Abigail ‘Abby’ Mwikisa will entertain guests with her serene, poignant voice and a calm demeanor at Jazz X Change’s opening show of the year on 28th February at President Hotel. Themed ‘Soul and Blues’, the impressive young songstress will be staging her first live showÔÇöperforming renditions of her original songs to soul infused sounds evoked by her band.
Having grown up with the knack for all things music, Abigail’s interest in singing was apparent from a young age: “I can’t really remember when because music and singing make up my earliest memories of life. My dad usually jokingly says that I could sing before I could even talk, but my most vivid memory of me being wholly consumed by love for singing was at age seven,” After completing high school, Abby started pursuing music full time as she felt it was something she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She has since performed on various platforms, her recent one being an opening act for highly acclaimed British soul singer Joss Stone at Botswana Craft.
When it comes to her music journey, she finds it to be something that is steadily growing. “It’s been quite thrilling,” delights the singer. “I’ve learned a lot from different artists and producers and I receive great responses on my live performances be it on stage, television or radio. It’s moving from one stage to the next bigger stage,” she says.
“My band and I have been putting in endless hours of work daily to make sure each note of every single song sounds amazing,” explained the singer about the grilling preparation for the show. She added that her team is comprised of young eager musicians who aren’t afraid of pushing themselves and are willing to go the extra mile when it comes to rehearsals. “Being under the mentorship of Mr El-Kindiy, who is also the founder of this platform has made a significant impact on our set,” stated Abigail. Her backing singers Bonolo Molefhe and Refilwe Boloseng will be setting the soulful ambiance as she leads away in song. She says people should expect a night full of jazzed up melodies which will be a fusion of all genres with a touch of soul and blues. For more on the show, visit Jazz X Change on Facebook.
