About 66,000 health clients hit by US funding suspension, 680 jobs on the line

The suspension of United States funding to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Botswana has impacted more than 66,000 clients who rely on crucial health and social services – documents seen by Sunday Standard have revealed. It has further emerged that 680 staff members within these organisations may lose their jobs.

The documents which form part of an assessment which was conducted by BOCONGO Secretariat to evaluate the extent of the impact on CSOs in Botswana including  BOCONGO members show that the abrupt halt in financial support has disrupted vital programs supporting vulnerable communities, including orphans, vulnerable children (OVC), and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in safe spaces.
