APOLOGY: ATTORNEY CONTINUES TP PRACTISE DESPITE BEING DISBARRED (TELEGRAPH DATED 24th FEBRUARY 2010)

It was reported on page 3 of the February 24 2010 edition of The Telegraph that Mosate and six other attorneys have been disbarred from the bar for a number of offences.

We wish to state that the above story is factually incorrect. We wish to state categorically that Phazha Butale, Patience Matengu, Canaan Dube and Benbella Rwelengera have not been disbarred, nor have they committed any offense of whatsoever nature.

This newspaper hereby tenders its sincere apology to the aforementioned attorneys and makes an unequivocal retraction of the allegations leveled against them in the said article.

Further, as explained to the author of the article, some lawyers choose not to renew their practicing certificates as they do not require them. In some instances, lawyers such as those in government and Parastatals who have previously held practicing certificates do not apply for renewal as they are exempt by the law from holding such certificates.
