Basarwa mobilise international community against Debswana

Basarwa are mobilizing international human rights organizations to address alleged human rights abuses by Debswana.

Through their human rights group, Khweedom Council, Basarwa claim Debswana has systematically violated their rights by displacing them  without adequate compensation. The ongoing conflict has its roots in relocations that began in the early 1970s when Basarwa were reportedly moved from their ancestral lands in the Orapa, Damtshaa, and Letlhakane areas to make way for diamond mining.
