The Secretary General of Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang has vowed that his party will take the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mokgweetsi Masisi to task over reports that Botswana Defence Force (BDF) is building an airfield on President Ian Khama’s private land in Mosu.
The Telegraph’s sister publication, Sunday Standard last week reported that the BDF is currently building an airfield in Mosu on a private piece of land owned by President Ian Khama. It is reported that once completed the airfield will form part of Khama’s collection of holiday resort infrastructure. The airfield is also expected to facilitate the president’ air travel.
Speaking during a BCP rally in Tati Siding village to launch Maria Kusasa, a BCP parliamentary candidate for Tati East constituency over the weekend, Dr Gobotswang said that the Minister will have to account in parliament where the funds used to build the airfield were sourced from.
“The minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration will have to account in parliament where the funds used to build the airfield were sourced from. Right now the government is always complaining about shortage of funds…..we want to know where they got the funds to build such an airfield,” he said.
Gobotswang went on to attack President Khama saying that under his administration the country has been plagued by corruption and abuse of government resources. He also accused Khama of tolerating corrupt practices.
“There is also a report about Minister Christian De-Graaf receiving lions from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks for breeding which is questionable. BCP will not rest until this issue is also fully explained to Batswana,” he said.
Gobotswang said that Batswana should cast their vote and remove the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) from power as it is driving the country into a crisis. He further said that Batswana should elect BCP into power as it is the only party with clear policies and the interest of the citizens at heart.
“Unlike other parties in the country, BCP is the only party which is not haunted by factions. It is the only party which has two Secretary Generals and everything is going smoothly in the party. The party also takes the welfare of Batswana seriously,” he said.
He further accused the ruling BDP of failing to tackle the Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) saying that the calamity has left Batswana reeling in abject poverty. He said that it is shocking to note that Botswana as a country that manufactures the Foot and Mouth vaccine fails to purge the disease.
“BDP has failed dismally to address FMD, a serious problem which has left a high number of Batswana reeling in poverty. I think the only problem is that Khama is not a cattle farmer therefore he does not care about the plight of the farmers. Instead, Khama and his friend Minister Degraaf own lions, snakes and a number of wild animals” he said, leaving BCP members in stitches of laughter.
