It was one of the embarrassing lows in the country’s sporting moments. On Saturday, 07th September 2024, the Botswana men’s senior football national team, the Zebras, was stranded in Mauritania.
At the time, the team was expected to return home on the same day after playing a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the home team. ‘Logistical issues,’ according to a Botswana Football Association (BFA) press statement on the 9th September 2024, delayed the team’s return.
