BOCRA engages with Starlink application, no final decision yet

The Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) this week clarified its stance on Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service, stating that it is still in the process of engaging with the application and has not reached a final decision. 

While not explicitly mentioning Starlink by name, BOCRA addressed recent media reports regarding a licence application by a “certain global satellite operator.”

Contrary to recent online media reports claiming that Starlink’s application had been rejected, BOCRA’s director of Broadcasting and Corporate Communications, Aaron Nyelesi, emphasized that the engagement process is ongoing in accordance with legislative provisions. These provisions mandate BOCRA to safeguard consumer interests, among other responsibilities.
