Botswana football seeks inspiration from SA’s adored Khumalo

The Super league legends have been advised to be always exemplary and conduct themselves in a manner that will act as a source of inspiration to the young ones.

The chairperson of the Super league Legends, Freddy Ramodise said  the legends were encouraged to do well and participate in football.

The legends hosted a gala dinner over the weekend in Gaborone where the guest of honour was former South African national team player, Doctor Khumalo.

“Our guest, Doctor Khumalo has encouraged us to participate in football and social events. We were told to always be exemplary and we should not undermine one another but show respect all the time so that people will embrace and support their association,” explained.

He said they were encouraged to have branches across the country so that no one is left behind. He said we should also advice and provide guidance to each other on social issues.

Ramodise explained that they are in talks with ministry of Sport and education on how they can help in reviving schools sport. “Super league legends are spread across the country and they can be used to participate in school sport because they have people who can coach kids and also administer football. He said they have partnered with Prime Time to assist them with documenting some of the former players. We have partnered with them to produce 52 episodes of documentaries that will be shown on national broadcaster Btv for the wider public to appreciate and know their legends during their days in the field of play,” he said.

Ramodise said they will be opening offices in Gaborone so that they can coordinate their operations from a central place. “We are going to work towards fighting social issues such as the scourge of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and supporting government in fighting chronic diseases.

According to Ramodise, Khumalo has also pledged to support Botswana and Namibia bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. “Khumalo also pledged to work with the local legends to do Tombstone for the late Terrence Mophuting. We also intend to have match between Kaiser Chief legends to honour Mophuting,” revealed Ramodise.
