The organisers of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) 2023 Marathon are expecting the sporting event to be positively impactful to the lives of the people of Francistown and other northerners at large.
BTC head of Business Pilot Yane observed that the objective is to host the marathon that “will have impactful and lasting life transformations on the city and its people”.
Launching the BTC marathon recently, deputy City Mayor of Francistown, Lesego Kwambala said “the city envisioned to be the city of all things precious. When something is said to be precious; emphasis is on its value. We believe and we all know that this city is special and its value is great. This is the position we want to reclaim. Francistown city prides itself as the hub of commerce and industry in the northern part of Botswana and further provides a linkage with other Southern African Development Community (SADC) neighbours such as Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia.”
The deputy mayor also observed that the Marathon is geared towards elevating the lives of Batswana and uplifting the well being of the communities. He further explained that the BTC marathon will go a long way in transforming the city and its people. The deputy mayor said it is a good initiative for BTC to host the competition in the Ghetto because it will change the social and economic landscape of the city. Registration for the marathon is ongoing. Full marathon 42.2km registration is P400, half marathon 21.1km is P300, 10km is P250, 5km is P150, and 5km peace run is P150. Corporate (group of ten) register at P1250 for 21.1km and for 10 km register at P1000.
