Can Manufacturers gets Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points certificate

Can Manufacturers Botswana was on Thursday awarded the coveted international certification, paving the way for the smooth movement of their services and products both locally and internationally.

Renowned German Bureau of Standards, DQS, conferred the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points certificate to the Lobatse-based company, to restore customer confidence in the company.

“Armed with this certification, Can Manufacturers management will no longer conduct business while looking over their shoulders for complaints and queries,” the company’s acting General Manager, Tshephiso Makgoeng, said.

Local retail giants used to shun their products mainly because they were doubtful of the products which had no HACCP accreditation.

“Sued for food poisoning, these big retailers looked upon us and put pressure on us for the acquisition of the certificate,” Makgoeng further noted, insisting such queries and complaints would now become a thing of the past.

A preventive approach for assuring food safety, HACCP accreditation targets elements of food microbiology, quality control and risk assessment.

It addresses physical, chemical and biological hazards as a means of prevention.

“It is used in the food industry to identify potential food safety hazards so that key actions known as Critical Control Points can be taken to reduce or eliminate the risk of hazards being realized thereby protecting public health,” Makgoeng told the audience, which included Lobatse mayor, Malebogo Kruger.

Despite acquiring the Botswana Bureau of Standards certification before, Can Manufacturers Botswana kept its mid night oil burning in a bid to attain world class quality recognition.

With the certification, Can Manufacturers is confident of a safe production environment and assures the end user that the cans from their company pose no threat to their health.

Besides, the accreditation marks another milestone for a sustainable and competitive business platform in the local, regional and global market.

DQS managing director Francois Labuschagne, welcomed Can Manufacturers to the “elite group of companies” and wished the company good luck in its endeavours in the global market.

Apart from providing international certification, assurance and training in the field of health, safety, environment and quality discipline, DQS adds value to organizations by identifying improvement opportunities to effectively manage speculative risks.
