The United States issued a travel advisory, not a travel ban, as previously reported. All countries are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the U.S. government has the responsibility to provide accurate information about the status of COVID-19 cases globally for U.S. citizens planning international travel.
The State Department reviews safety conditions in all countries on a regular basis and Botswana is one of many countries currently listed at Level 4 in the Travel Advisory System. The Advisory for Botswana states “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Botswana due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
CDC compliant testing for COVID-19 is either not available or results are not always available within 3 calendar days of testing. Travelers should expect delays returning to the U.S. Botswana has lifted stay at home orders and resumed some transportation options and business operations.
Masks are required in all public spaces.
Visit the Embassy’s COVID-19 page for more information on COVID-19 in Botswana.”
