COSSASA organisers hope for successful Games

The organisers of the Confederation of School Sports Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) ball games have promised to go all out to deliver successful games. In a bid to ensure the success of the games, organisers have roped in captains of industry to lead the preparations as the COSSASA Ball Games Gaborone 2016 board. Speaking during the launch of the games, which will be held in Gaborone next month, COSSASA Ball Games Gaborone 2016 Board Chairman, Mephato Reatile, said they tapped into different industries to bring capable people who can deliver. “As this is a national event which has the capability to put our country in the international map if handled properly, we have decided to set up a team that can achieve success at the coming games. According to the Board Chairman, the board will comprise of, among others, the Chief Executive Officer of FNBB Steven Bogatsu, Managing Director of Cresta Group Patrick Chivese, Managing Director of DHL Express Botswana Mokgethi Magapa, Ms Patricia Courriten of MC Legal, Anthony Masunga from Botswana Telecommunications Corporation as well as the Chief Broadcasting Officer at Botswana Television (BTV) Sakaeyo Jannie. Also joining as members of the board are the games Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman Tlhagiso Sethibe, LOC Vice Chairperson Joy Setshedi as well as Botswana Integrated Sports Associations (BISA) President Joshua Gaotlhobogwe, who is also the LOC member.

According to Reatile, who is also the Chairman of the Southern District Council, the board ‘will operate as the supervisors of the executives of the LOC which comprises of the leadership of the Botswana Primary Schools Sports Associations (BOPSSA) and BISA. With Botswana having successfully hosted the COSSASA athletics championships two years ago, Reatile said he is hoping these games will also be a big success. “In 2014 Botswana hosted the athletics championships and an astounding success was recorded by our country. This has set a mark to be equalled or be surpassed by the organisers of this year’s event,” the COSSASA Ball Games Gaborone 2016 Board Chairman said. Reatile then called on the whole country and stakeholders to rally behind the organisers and support the organisers to come on board as the games are a platform to launch the countries’ future stars. “The COSSASA championships have created a platform for the likes of Nijel Amos, Tracy Chaba, Mogakolodi ‘Tsotso’ Ngele and Tumisang Bagidi. These athletes have gone on to represent Botswana at International competitions and attained stardom in the process,” Reatile explained. “I urge the whole country and the business community to support the games by pledging, sponsoring and partnering with the LOC to augment what the government has provided for the games,” he concluded. The COSSASA ball games will be held in Gaborone from the 22nd to the 28th of next month.
