Deluxe Cab driver dies allegedly at the hands of customers

Hard on the heels of the death of an Indian businessman who was shot dead, a cab driver has died following a violent skirmish with suspected customers at the weekend.
Already, police have arrested three people in connection with the death of the cab driver.
It is reported that last Friday around 10:00hrs, a certain man who was casually treated like any other potential cab customer called Deluxe Cab from Tlokweng.
The assistant in the cab control office asked the caller where he was destined upon which the caller claimed the wanted to be transported to the University of Botswana.
As per the usual procedure, the cab assistant instructed the driver, who is now the deceased, to drive to Tlokweng and meet the customer. Upon arrival in Tlokweng, the deceased found three men who on the way changed their minds and said that that they would no longer be going to UB but Block 9 instead.
The deceased then updated the control room about the new developments.
However, after a few minutes the controller tried to communicate with the deceased for an update but the communication was off.
The controller reportedly kept trying to call the deceased to no avail only to receive a phone call the next morning from a passer-by in Extension 14.
The cab, which was identified by the print and contact numbers, was reported to have been seen in the area with blood stains.
The dead cab driver was found lying in a pool of blood by police officers who were on night patrol.
The Acting Public Relations Officer, Botswana Police Service (BPS), Senior Superintendent Dipheko Motube, said police are investigating the death of the man, 25, of Manyana village suspected to have been stabbed while on duty.
He said though the incident is still fresh, the deceased was found dead at Block 9 last Friday night while the cab he was driving was also found abandoned somewhere in extension 14.
“The police acted swiftly and on Saturday three suspected men who are all Batswana were arrested in connection with incident,” he said.
Motube said the three suspects would appear before the magistrate court sometime this week while police investigations are continuing to establish the motive behind the killing. The deceased’s body is atPrincess ┬áMarina hospital awaiting post modern.
He warned the public to always be vigilant and report any suspicious people to the nearest police.
The Director of Deluxe Cab, Lesego Othusitse, confirmed the incident but declined to share any further information.
