Economy shrunk by 3% in 2024

Botswana’s economy shrank by 3 percent in 2024, a decline that was widely anticipated given sluggish growth across the year and the continued under-performance of diamonds, the country’s main economic anchor. The precious stones account for more than 70 percent of export earnings and roughly 30 percent of government revenue.
