Lobatse-based BMC have sounded warning bells to their opposition not to expect any favours in the coming season.
After finishing second to Mochudi Centre Chiefs in the 2011/12 Be MOBILE Premier League, Ezinkomo executive committee has hinted that they want to win the league honours.
Addressing a press conference at BMC headquarters in Lobatse midweek, the club’s chairperson, Sonny Phiri, said that it is their intention to keep moving forward in all aspects and “our plan is to win at least one cup in the coming season”.
We want to build a strong side hence we’ve brought in some new players who will help us achieve that,” he said.
BMC have registered nine players, namely: Bernard Semakwezi (Nico United), Raphael Nthwane (Extension Gunners), Thebe Maiketso, Musa Ohilwe (both Gaborone United), Farlkirk Shabani (Molapong Green Birds), Amos Godirwang (Township Rollers) and two Zimbabwean strikers Mkhulili Dube and Njabulo Dube.
Under the guidance of head coach Daniel ‘Chicco’ Nare, the Ezinkomo boss believes that they have a gaffer who has all the qualities to achieve big things.
After several years of suffering, BMC supporters can now afford a smile as Nare has transformed the fortunes of the club. Though Nare’s contract runs out in December, Phiri assured BMC supporters that soon they will be penning a new deal.
For his part, Nare said that the new season will come with its own challenges but pointed out that it is about time his side challenged other clubs for silverware.
He said that he wants to change the mentality of everybody at the club because, for a long time, Ezinkomo has been settling for lower positions.
“I’ve told the new players that they must come here with a mentality of winning. They’re not just here to add numbers. The reason I have brought Raphael, Musa, Thebe and Amos is because they have won cups at their respective clubs and they will be able to help us achieve what we want. That does not mean they (new players) will walk into the starting line-up, they’ll have to earn their place,” he added.
Nare is aware that it will take time for the team to gel but he is not that worried because they have not made wholesale changes to the team which came second last season. He pointed out that they maintained the defence that played in the previous season, save for goalkeeper Takudzwa Ndoro, who joined Gunners.
Nare told reporters that after failing to convert chances they created in many games, he has been forced to go and look for strikers.
Defensively, Ezinkomo were the best, having conceded the least number of goals but it is upfront where they were found wanting. The burden of scoring was put heavily on the shoulders of Kenanao ‘Flo’ Kgetholetsile but he struggled to bang in goals.
Enterprising midfielder Motsholetsi Sikele scored seven goals to be the club’s top scorer, something which Nare said will change with the arrival of the Zimbabwean strikers.
