Makuta residents will this year experience the much anticipated FNB Foundation Nswazwi Marathon slated for October 1st. This year’s theme of the FNB sponsored race is ‘Promoting a healthy well being’.
The race is set to be much bigger with sponsors pledging as much as P180 000, an immense increase from P30 000 donated last year. The P180 000 fund has been put forward to finance the races for the next three years.
The FNB Foundation Nswazwi Marathon P.R.O, Mr Gerald Bashingi, said the race will start from Sebina and participants will conclude their battle at the Makuta village. The race is estimated to be 21.1km in total.
This year’s marathon will be in four segments namely the senior men and women category for 19-45year olds, Under19s Junior men and women category, local athletes’ category and finally the veterans’ category for +45 year olds.
The Junior category prize winner will walk away with P1 800, while the 2nd prize will bag P900, 3rd prize P600, 4th prize P300 and the 5th position contestant will walk away with P200. “Cash will not be given to the junior contestants in hand, but instead they will be given shopping vouchers,” commented Bashingi.
The senior category prizes for both men and women are P5 000 for position 1, P2 500 for position 2, while 3rd, 4th and 5th position will walk away with P1 200, P700 and P400 respectively.
