Gaborone Hogs humbles UB Rhinos and continues winning streak

Gaborone Hogs Rugby Club continued their winning streak defeating their arch-rivals UB Rhinos 25-0 in a trouble-free match that was played in Gaborone, Wharic Park over the weekend.

Hogs who have waged a reign of terror in the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) A Division league are still unbeaten after 3 games since the beginning of the league in February.

So far they have gone past BDF Cheetahs and Tuskers among others.

They are perched second on the league table with 13 points behind LKC Jaguars who devoured Tuskers 44-10 to maintain their top spot.

Gaborone Hogs head coach Hugo Botha said despite dominating the entire game his team needs to improve their physical fitness if they are to contest for the league title.

“We might be winning at the moment but we really needs to improve our physique going forward, we are lucky because our play is of top notch and we have depth hence we manage to win, physical fitness is key in rugby, we will be working hard to improve on that aspect” he said.

Coach Botha however praised his team for excellent attack and resistance which he considers a key aspect of his side.

“That’s why we haven’t lost any game this season because I have a much disciplined defense and attack which do a good job for us, but I always tell my players not to lose focus because we still have a long way to go, it’s too early, the league just started “ said Botha.

Next on their crosshairs is Mochudi rugby club and the LKC Jaguars the elite league debutantes who shocked everyone last season by finishing on second position behind the Hogs.

“We played LKC in the last year’s final and we are wary of the threat that they are posing ahead of our next week’s encounter. The jaguars are a tough and stubborn team, it’s never an easy game when the two sides do battle and the atmosphere is always electric” he added.

UB Rhinos remains rooted at the bottom of the log after losing all their 2 games consecutively at the hands of Cheetahs and Hogs.

Meanwhile UB ladies continued to dominate the ladies league by thrashing Hogs 20-0 to remain at the apex of the log with six points while Jwaneng registered their first win of the season against BIUST in the reserve league.
