Groovy sounds and tons of nostalgia will be the order of the day next week Saturday when the Gaborone International Conference Centre holds their annual DJ Party. The theme this year is the ‘1980s and 1990s hits series’, a clear focus on songs from the 1980s and 1990s.
The evolution of music that occurred throughout the 1980s was huge across the whole world. It also saw the emergence of pop, dance and new wave which were all descendants of the disco which ran its course through the 1970s.
Pop icons Michael Jackson, Madonna and Whitney Houston were among the many of the biggest stars of the 1980s. The hip hop genre also underwent a significant change as the artists were adding disco beats, rendering it funkier.
Anyone who grew up in the 1990s will vouch that this was by far the ‘bubble gum’ era ruled by pop, hip hop and urban R n B beats. The 1990s also saw a lot of fusion between various genres creating a whole new musical dimension.
Lorato Kgopolo from the Grand Palm indicated that this year they have also included the now-played music hits to cater for all as guided by the demands of the market.
“Everybody can come to the party ÔÇô with a dress code of the 1980s to enhance the specialty of the show,” she added.
The tickets are P250 each for entry and all meals and drinks can be bought separately in one of the many versatile restaurants at the Grand Palm. Accommodation is also available on the night at a discounted price of P900 per couple inclusive of breakfast in the luxurious Walmont hotel.
The year 2014 comes with even more activities during the party as Jameson is sponsoring the event and Samsung gives away prizes to the best dancers.
On the decks that night will be DJs Homie, DJC4 and Kuchi who are all popularly known for their brilliant acts.
Grab a silver glove and put on your dancing shoes and traipse down memory lane on Saturday July 26.
