By Godfrey Mowaneng

Former BTC premiership clubs Gilport Lions and Tafic are leading the pack in Debswana First Division League south and north respectively.

Gilport Lions climbed to the top of the table over the weekend when they defeated Tlokweng based Red Sparks by a solitary goal. Gilport Lions toppled Black Peril from the summit of the log table after Peril’s one all draw against Modipane United.

Now, only a solitary point separates Gilport Lions and Peril, while Broadhurst United is now placed third after beating Mochudi Rovers two nil. Broadhurst United, who were sitting in seventh position before the weekend were the weekend’s biggest winners as they jumped four places into third in the log table.

Mochudi Rovers remains in the seventh place in the table while former elite league side Uniao Flamengo Santos forced way into the top four after a one nil win over rookies Blue Stars.

Five matches into the season, Blue Stars are rooted at the bottom of the table after managing only a single point. Despite starting the season on a high note, Matebejane has since found the going tough in their last three encounters, losing two and drawing their last one against Jwaneng Fighters. The two played to a one all draw.

After a scrappy start to the season, giants Mogoditshane Fighters pocketed three points winning against Black Rangers in their second win of the season leaving the Mogoditshane based side on the eighth position on the log table. It has not been easy for Black Rangers this season as they are yet to register a win in five games. The Kgalagadi based Rangers lost three of their games and managed two draws and are sitting second from bottom in the log table.

Meanwhile, Matjiminyenga as Tafic is affectionately called in football circles is placed at the summit of the log table closely followed by Morupule Wanderers in the second spot. Rookies Eleven Angels are sitting on the third spot. Sua Flamengos are sitting on the fourth spot while Nico United are sitting on the fifth spot. Motlakase Power Dynamos are placed sixth with Green Lovers on the seventh spot while Francistown City Greens are on the eighth position.
