The first round of the Kweneng Regional Women football league ended in style over the weekend, a fitting way to make football the real centre piece. The match between Mexican Girls and Makufa lived up to all expectations and the two rivals went into the weekend fixture occupying the top two positions.
It was Mexican Girls who had the upperhand as they stunned Makufa by 10 goals to two at Lekidi football grounds to mark the completion of the first round of the Kweneng Women Football League.
Mexican Girls and Makufa were separated by four points with the latter leading the pack with 18 points and the victorious Mexican Girls with 14 points. The margin was reduced to 1 point giving Mexican Girls hope of defending the league championship. It was Makufa’s first loss this season.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Mexican Girls coach Oaitse Moeti said “my team is on Position 2 of the log standing, we have 17 points which means we are a point behind the log leaders. Mexicans are on the right track to defend the 2018/2019 league title.”
Moeti added that the win was an outstanding finish as it helped to maximise their points and close the gap between the team and other title chasers. However the players need to improve their defense skills and goalkeeping tactics as the team has been giving away goals unnecessarily.
The coach further added that he inspires his players by advising them to respect every moment in the pitch and that they should not let themselves down during any moment of football.
The second round of the league will commence early next year at a date yet to be confirmed. The current positions of the Kweneng Women Football 2018/2019 log standing are as follows: Makufa is leading with18 points, followed by Mexicans with 17 points,BDF XI is on 14 points, Sikalekeke has 12 points, Mvela is on position five with 10 points, Divine Brains and Blomk Stars have four points each and on the 8th position is Lulu Sporting Club with one point.
