Balete will eventually have something to lean on, as the government has decided to build a mini-stadium project in Ramotswa – backtracking from the original Sports Complex the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture promised the residents during National Development Plan 8.
Alongside other District Headquarters, a decision was taken during NDP 9 to re-priorities outstanding projects, with Ramotswa Sports Complex being included in the new plan.
“The same happened to a number of other areas as well. Madam Speaker, Ramotswa will be considered for a mini-stadium project as part of my Ministry’s strategy to improve sporting facilities around the country,” said Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Edwin Batshu on behalf of substantive Minister Thapelo Olopeng.
He however failed to account for the P60m previously allocated for the stadium as alluded by South East South Member of Parliament Samuel Rantuana.
Batshu refused to be dragged into giving the timeframe for the commencement of the project. The home village of the Letlapeng Sporting Club, Ramotswa village is on tenterhooks as their sole premier league football club’s survival in the lucrative competition hangs in the balance.
The area MP, Rantuana expressed concern about the commencement of the construction of the complex in Ramotswa as the time duration seems running out. Rantuana went on further to inquire the whereabouts of the P60m previously allocated to the construction of the initial stadium.
