Govt splashes P35 million on a Gaborone mansion

The government has spent P35 million to purchase a house from a Gaborone businessman under curious circumstances.

As if to avoid public scrutiny Sunday Standard has been reliably informed the procurement of the Gaborone, Extension 11 facility was done through the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) whose accounts always escape the inspection of the Auditor General.

While there was no official communication about the sale, government insists the property has been bought through the right channels and as a guest house for visiting dignitaries.

Dismissing unconfirmed allegations that the House was earmarked for President Masisi’s retirement home,Permanent Secretary, Government Communications Montlenyane Baaitse told Sunday Standard that, “the house at …Extension 11, Gaborone has not been purchased for His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana Dr E.K. Masisi,”
