Grant Thornton unveils new identity

One of Botswana’s largest and leading professional service firms, Grant Thornton Acumen Botswana, an organization which has been in this country for over 30 years, has officially unveiled its new brand identity.

From now onwards, this organization is going to be known as Grant Thornton.

Speaking in an interview with The Sunday Standard, managing partner, Jay Ramesh, said that the new brand actively demonstrates their membership of a leading global organization that gives their clients access to the knowledge and experience of over 2 200 partners from member firms worldwide.
“Our clients receive a distinctive, personalized service from Grant Thornton in Botswana, and rightly expect the same level of quality when they use Grant Thornton firms anywhere in the world,” he stated.

Giving background information, Ramesh explained that Grant Thornton Botswana was first registered in 1976 as Acumen. In 1980, Raja Ram, who was the founder, took it over and later in 1984 was joined by Ramesh and Rajendran Varma as tax partners. In 1992, he said they became a member of Grant Thornton. “By then we were a small firm with only 10 employees and, since then, we have grown with our clients right through,” Ramesh stated.

Ramesh revealed that Grant Thornton currently has a staff compliment of over 120 people of whom 80 are Batswana. Amongst these employees, Ramesh disclosed that more than 45 are qualified professionals. He explained that they sponsor deserving Batswana employees for professional studies by providing loans, grants and offer them study leave.

“Some leave us after acquiring their professional qualifications. We have some of our trainees in big organizations like Air Botswana, Shell etc,” he stated. Positioned as the leading professional services organization in their chosen market in Botswana, Ramesh highlighted that “we are truly a category of one.”

According to Ramesh, Grant Thornton is a large worldwide organization which they are very proud to be associated with. Grant Thornton member firms in over 100 countries have also recently adopted a new global brand identity and logo and will instantly be recognized as part of the Grant Thornton International organization, he stated.

David McDonnell, the Chief Executive Officer of Grant Thornton International, said that the global accounting profession needs leaders who are prepared to speak out on issues that matter to business and to the wider public.
