Hot seat watch ÔÇô at least two coaches face the chop

Gaborone United head coach, Major David Bright might want to invest in asbestos underwear, because the seat under him is getting pretty hot.

The league is just on its fourth week and already it is increasingly looking like a matter of when, not if, Major Bright will be fired by Gaborone United as the team is finding it difficult to collect points. Despite assembling a team roundly regarded as any coach’s dream come true, GU have only managed four points from possible 12 out of their four outings.

Last season GU bough a number of highly rated players but this was not matched by their log standing. Before the beginning of this season GU once again went into the transfer market to reinforce their team. Still, the team is far less than the sum total of its individual talent. As the losses pile up, disgruntled fans and officials are starting to point fingers and indications are that it is Major Bright who will wind up on the cross hairs.

GU Secretary General, Herbet Letsebe told The Telegraph Sports that they are concerned about the performance of the team but denied that the coach is on the firing line. “It is true that we are not happy with the performance of the team but we are not blaming the coach. We are just looking at a team as a whole to see where we can work on the challenges we might have,” he said.

Letsebe also added that it may be a blessing to have challenges now and work on them rather than later. “If you look back at our previous season we won our first five matches of the league from there we started experiencing draws and losses. By the time the results were coming we thought we were on the right track and only for things to change later. If there are areas that need to be attended to, it should be sooner rather when the league is about to end,” he said.

Meanwhile efforts to contact, Bright were futile by press time. The mixed results of the team come at a time when Bright‘s name is linked with the senior national team vacant post, following sacking of Stanley Tshosane two weeks back. Even before the league started Bright’s name was still mentioned as Tshosane’s possible replacement. On the other hand one coach who is reported to be in the line of fire is of Extension Gunners, China Matlhaku. Gunners only won their opening match against Rollers and have since never had it easy. Gunners are also reportedly considering looking for a new coach to replace Matlhaku whom they believe is not bringing desired results. Matlhaku has for a long time been a youth coach especially at the Under 20 before being roped in by Gunners.
