Botswana’s efforts to reduce poverty and inequality among its youth and women are being undermined by a significant gap in data on key programmes designed to uplift these groups, A recent report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP in collaboration with the Government of Botswana suggests.
The report titled ‘Review of the Implementation of the Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Declaration,’ highlights growing concerns about rising inequality among women and youth. According to the findings of the report, urban areas are witnessing a sharp increase in consumption inequalities while households headed by women continue to experience higher levels of poverty. The report outlines how efforts to combat poverty and unemployment among these groups have largely fallen short or not being followed up, leaving them vulnerable and undeserved .
