It was an evening of quality hip-hop music and interesting revelations when the P10, 000-emcee search hosted by HUB magazine moved to Bull & Bush this past Sunday. With the auditions long out of the way, the time had come to reveal whose ability on the microphone impressed the judges enough to make the cut. Fortunately, The HUB crew ensured that they weren’t simply holding an announcement ceremony and put on an enjoyable show with Yarona F.M’s Big Duke as the master of ceremonies.
Touch sparked off the show with a decent performance of three successive club bangers. As expected, atleast for anyone who attended the auditions, Simba and Aether both made it to the list.
Interestingly enough, Aether arrived just in the nick of time to have his name called out and jump on stage to deliver a sensational freestyle. He had just made his way from a photo shoot for the cover of his upcoming mixtape ÔÇô no word on when we can expect it but no doubt, local rap fans will be eagerly anticipating its release.
There was a twist near the end of the show when Big Duke called up Nephew as the tenth pick but after making his way to the stage, Big Duke revealed that it was a tie for the last position, between Nephew and Linxstar. The two emcees each took turns trying to move the crowd and Linxstar came out on top in the end, claiming the coveted final position.
The only downside was that on this occasion, BW stood for bad weather, as rain forced the proceedings to be put on hold atleast twice. That didn’t deter any of the hip-hop heads on hand from having a good time though, especially when Marked Man brought the house down with a massive performance. Chubb Heights and KEB, two of the group’s members, each performed their latest singles to an immense crowd reaction. A.T.I kept the momentum going with a thrilling performance of his own, notwithstanding the fact that he was the only performer to lip sync. And so, the chosen ten of the HUB music series had been revealed ÔÇô Aether, Simba, Drama boi, Bone C, Erectile Enigma, Willz, Linxstar, Razkill_99, M.O.I, and Li’l Miss Andy.
Two of the elite, namely Enigma and Bone C, will have to produce three different songs, in time to perform them this coming Sunday. With the help of Booth Royale, they will each record a club track, a street banger and a conscious track. This will test their ability to lay down quality music, as well as their versatility with different styles of hip-hop. Then on Sunday, the judges will decide which one of the two progresses to the next round and this will go down every weekend until we’re down to a final five. The competition for the grand prize is heating up and it’s anybody guess who’ll finally walk away with the bragging rights, only time will tell.
