As you read this today (Tuesday), the people of the United States of America are busy voting for their 45th president. They are choosing between the Republican’s Donald Trump and the Democrat’s Hillary Clinton. My money is on Hillary. There are so many reasons why the world should not have Donald Trump as President of the United States. You know, Hillary is nobody’s fool and it is such an insult for the Americans to have pitted her against Donald.America is looking for a president here. Americais not casting for some comedy show, which of cause Donald would be the right candidate.
Let us be blunt. Donald is dumb! One of my favourite writers, Erin Rubbery seems to concur. She diplomatically says Hillary is proof that a woman can work hard and rise to the field and still have to compete against a less qualified man for the job. Let me perhaps acknowledge from the onset that like all mortals, Hillary has her own flaws but put cheek by jowl with Donald, she becomes a saint. To even mention that Hillary is best qualified for the job is like saying the sun rises from the east. It shouldn’t be debated.Donald’s buffoonery is legendary and this makes Hillary the ideal president for a serious democracy like the US. Here we are talking about the election of President of the United States of America. This is a serious position that needs to be occupied by a serious person. In the U.S. they scrutinize everything you do and say. Actually it has been proven by CNN that Donald told a total of 137 lies during the three presidential debates. And by the way, of all the surviving five US presidents, none of them has endorsed Donald. For the first time in the history of American politics, a presidential candidate has not received the blessings of his party’s former leaders. You will agree with me that nobody knows better than those five people what it means to be president of the US and yet not a single one of them believes Donald has what it takes to do the job. They are with Hillary.Hillary has a proven track record of achievements that would take up the entire newspaper space to detail. Let me, however, attempt to compress her achievements for my readers’ indulgence. Hillary was elected Senior Class President of Wellesley College and graduated with honors from Yale Law School before completing another year of graduate studies. She worked on Presidential campaigns of Barry Goldwater (1964), George McGovern (1972), and Jimmy Carter (1976). She chaired the Arkansas Educational Standards Committee while husband Bill Clinton was Governor. Hillary co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. She was named one of the 100 most powerful lawyers in America by the National Law Journal in 1988 and 1991. She has served as US Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009. She thereafter served as US Secretary of State until 2013.
One of Hillary’s greatest achievements is the Global Health Initiative (GHI), introduced in 2010. GHI was designed to put a focus on maternal and infant health, strategy to improve medical facilities, reduce the spread of HIV, and lower infant and maternal mortality rates. What a phenomenal woman Hillary is! Beyond individual achievements, Hillary has made it her life’s mission to ensure the world knows one simple thing: that “human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights.” In every position she has held, Hillary has fought to bring women closer to equality. Bringing issues like women’s health, equal pay, and domestic violence to the forefront, she has never stopped making cracks in the glass ceiling. Some have argued that Hillary was not kind to Monica Lewinsky but honestly, how did we expect Hillary to be kind to a lady who almost screwed up her marriage. It is unfair to crucify Hillary for losing her cool during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. In any case, even as some people want to portray Hillary’s husband as a womaniser, I still maintain a womaniser is far much better than a women abuser. Bill pursues women who are pursuable but Donald forces his way with women, to the point of bragging about it to his friends.
Unlike Donald who threatens to build walls to keep immigrants at bay, Hillary has stretched her arms wide open. It is such a shame and pity that while everyone knows that America is a nation of immigrants, Donald wants to reverse all that harmony and mutuality.A presidential candidate who says dodging tax is a sign of being smart should be denied a vote. Hillary understands economic inequality and wants to fix it while Donald wants the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.
Hillary supports other women in the climb towards equality while Donald views women as mere objects. His lewd comments about women bear testimony to this assertion. For a man who is hoping to become President of the United States and presumably persuade women to vote for him, Donald is a disgrace. He has a history of looking down on and degrading women. This isthe guy who said women should be punished for having abortions. His spousal abuse is well documented. He has abused his former spouses and even his daughter. Yep, Donald once said if Ivanka was not his daughter he would probably date her. What man lusts on his daughter? Donald has publicly expressed his excitement at seeing women being divorced by their husbands. Donald celebrates divorce. How shameful! Donald says breast-feeding is disgusting. Donald, ugly as he is, has on several occasions labelled some women as ugly. While all normal people showed sympathy and empathized with Hillary over Bill’s indiscretion with Monica Lewinsky, Donald saw it as an opportunity to score cheap political points. Here is what he posted the other day; ‘’If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?”Such an analogy coming from a presidential hopeful is disgusting and unacceptable. When the New York Post first disclosed a video of Donald describing how he tried to seduce a married woman and bragging in vulgar terms how his celebrity status allowed him to kiss and grope women without permission, Donald dismissed it as lies and part of a media conspiracy to defeat him. This led to many of his other victims coming forth to say ‘that is the Donald we know’. Typical of Donald, instead of apologizing, he comes up with silly defence to say it was ‘’locker room talk”, thus downplaying the gravity of his irresponsible talk.To make matters worse, Donald has a wife who is equally dumb. Melania shocked the world when she delivered a plagiarized speech from Michelle Obama. She has yet again exposed her dunderheadedness. When asked about her husband bragging about how he touches women’s private parts without their consent, Melania says people must not fuss about it because Donald is easily manipulated and can easily be made to say and do stupid things. This, coming from a prospective First Lady, should leave all Americans convulsed.
Donald is a weak candidate. Only weak candidates spend more time attacking their opponents and less time telling the electorates why they deserve the vote. Donald seems to have already come to terms with his impending loss. He is already crying foul and says the election is going to be rigged. Election rigging is our baby in Africa and not in America. Donald is so scared and desperate he has resorted to blaming anyone and anything for his impeding loss. He says journalists are ganging up against him. The other day he was blaming the microphone for his dismal performance during the presidential debate. As Africans we must not encourage the American voters to usher in Donald. He is bad for obscure countries such as ours that rely so heavily on American assistance. Donald just doesn’t give a damn about Africa. Donald rarely addresses Africa or US-Africa relations in his campaign speeches. Donald looks set to alienate Africa from America.
To the American voters I make this impassioned plea: It’s About Damn Time. You made history by voting for the first black American president. Do it again by voting for the first woman American president. Show Donald that women are not objects. When women take on leadership roles, the way women are perceived and talked about, by the likes of Donald, changes.Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the next President of the United States of America, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton. God bless Hillary. And God bless America.
