It would be a mistake for Head of State to chair a Board of a parastatal

It will give close observers of governance no relief to note that president Mokgweetsi Masisi is keen on appointing himself Chairman of a parastatal that Botswana government intends on creating.That parastatal is likely to  be called Botswana Investment Board. But really the name does not matter. It is the principle of having a Head of State as Chairman of a state owned enterprise that should give all of us a reason to pause. There are too many questions that arise from such a decision.When the president becomes a Board chair, what becomes of his relationship with other Board members?
