The long awaited IWG World Conference on Women and Sport 7th edition which will be held in Gaborone does not seem to have raised enough enthusiasm among Batswana, and organisers are running helter skelter trying to raise last minute support.
With only 12 weeks before the international showpiece the Local Organising Committee has registered slightly over 400 participants far less than the projected 1200 for the four day event billed for the 17- 20 May 2018.
Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Boitumelo Kenosi is however optimistic that they will reach the target because a number of organisations were still to register. She explained that, “from the beginning of this conference every country that has had the privilege to host it had a set target and the last country to host it had a target of 800. Every host country increases the target hence ours is 1200.”
Key organisations invited for the event include IOC, FIFA, TAFISA, UNESCO and IAAF. There will be 192 presentations and 78 percent of the speakers have already confirmed their attendance. Kenosi said the event presents an opportunity for Botswana to benchmark against the world’s best practices.
