Khama loses South African court battle against extradition

Lt Gen Ian Khama’s extradition from South Africa will be determined by his political connections instead of through a judicial process. The former President of Botswana last week lost a high court bid to have a magistrate in South Africa consider whether the criminal charges he is facing in Botswana are trumped up. The South African courts instead shifted Khama’s extradition decision to the country’s political leadership.

Among the charges he currently faces is a charge for illegal possession of five firearms.
