MilkAfric, which will become the nation’s largest raw milk producer and distributor in Botswana, offering fresh milk and home delivery, signed a ground breaking Private Public Partnership (PPP) agreement on Thursday with the Lobatse Town Council.
MilkAfric Chairman, Rocky Moncho, revealed that in addition to the dairy products, MilkAfric will bring to the Botswana market a 2 000 milking cow dairy and will create employment. He added that it will also establish an Out Grower Net programme that incorporates smallholder farmers into the value chain and will bring significant structural and financial development to the town of Lobatse and the surrounding villages.
“We will be offering fresh milk and home delivery on a daily basis directly from the Lobatse Dairy Estates and the company will also produce butter, cream and Madila,” said Moncho.
He stated that their strong relationship with the Lobatse Town Council was also leveraged for product development and technical expertise boosts the Council financially. He pointed out that internships and training for livestock and dairy management will also be offered by MilkAfric, adding that the company will kick start by employing over hundred people.
┬á“We are excited to offer a brand in the country for ever and it is imperative that Botswana is competitive in the dairy industry,” said Moncho.
Moncho pointed out that the investment in the new factory represents their belief and passion for local market and its potential growth. He said that MilkAfric is targeting all the consumers of milk and dairy products.
“The project will contribute to the country’s food security, particularly in nutrition and health, as well as infrastructural development of Botswana first tow,” he said.┬á
Moncho said there will be over 1000 milk herds and other breeds will be coming from the USA, such as jersey, which have high fat content.  
Lobatse Town Council Clerk Gabatlotlane Sekwakwa pointed out that the agreement the town council is getting in with MilkAfric is an agreement of twenty five years renewable lease. She said the land where the project is allocated is an unserviced land.
She also revealed that MilkAfric is an initiative from BEDIA and Botswana’s Ambassador to the US Tebelelo Seretse with the idea of bringing the investors to Botswana, particularly Lobatse Town.
   
The Mayor of Lobatse, Caroline Lesang, said that the agreement solidifies an official pairing of the city of Lobatse and MilkAfric in to order begin dairy operations in Lobatse.
