Extra Melody, the rhumba band that split away from Alfredo Mos years ago is releasing their 4th album titled Vision 2016. Featured on the album is the daughter of popular Zimbabwean musician, Oliver Mtukudzi. Selmor Mtukudzi lends her voice for background singing on two tracks of the album.
Vision 2016 is to be launched at Chez Ntemba on Saturday the 17th of November. The launch will feature a cross-genre variety of artists, from Gong Master to Astley Gops and Exodus.
Extra Melody also has enlisted new musicians from the Botswana music circuit. Thabo Motlhabaphuti, who is a vocalist popular in jazz circles, featured in Extra Melody’s 2003 release, on a track titled Tsala Yame. He is the band’s lead singer taking over from Biza, a reputed rhumba vocalist.
Another new band member, Shabani Mwanasande, is the Tanzanian responsible for the guitar licks in most of Franco’s albums, he has also played on Vee’s and Eskimos’ tracks. Also playing guitar is Congolese, Yaya Ndabula.
Awilo Kisimba, also from Congo, mans the drums and lastly, Mookamedi Rrapaki is a founder member on bass guitar.
