Naughty Boys’ workaholic Striker, Botlhe “Ringo” Rankgomo, is on the wanted list of several local clubs. ECCO City Green, NICO United and Extension Gunners are rumoured to be after the player.
The search for Ringo long started before the transfer window opened. Contacted for comment, Rankgomo confirmed to having been approached by several local clubs. It is reported that almost after every game with Naughty Boys, opposition coaches always approach Ringo, enticing him to join their teams.
Despite the financial crisis that has hit the teams, it is understood that all the teams that approached Ringo were dangling signing on fees of more than P20 000. For a monthly salary Ringo was unwilling to settle for anything less than P3000. Ringo said he would not move to a certain team on the basis of a hefty signing on fee as he is more interested on his life after football than anything else.
Township Rollers are also understood to be after the player who eluded them during the past transfer window and ended up at minnows, Naughty Boys. The team has renewed their quest for the player who is renowned for his incredible work rate.
Rahman Gumbo, the Rollers coach, is known to be an admirer of the dread locked striker, and has been making enquiries to lure the player to Rollers. Ringo’s loyalty is, however, with Naughty Boys. Naughty Boys’ officials managed to secure the player a vacancy at one of the local banks. He told Sunday Standard, however, that none of the teams has really come up with a concrete offer and that even if they did there are slim chances for him to leave as he is happy at Naughty Boys. He also said that his current focus is to help Naughty Boys to move away from the precarious position they are currently occupying.
“I really partly take responsibility for our poor run in the league and, Naughty Boys have been good to me, the least I could do is to stay and help my team to a reputable position in the league,” he said.
Ringo has formed a strong partnership upfront with Galefetoge ‘Dilo Dilo’ Kenaope, credited to have brought back both Naughty Boys and Township Rollers from First Division. His absence always sees the team struggle. If Ringo leaves, Dinoko will struggle to find an equally good replacement, especially that players are on long time contracts and the team is not rich enough to pry them away.
