Capetonian General Manager, Wenzel Holtzhausen, is determined to position the hotel as the major regional leisure and business venue of choice, as well as putting Palapye on the national and international map.
The town, he says, is ideally located on the main trunk routes to Maun, Kasane, Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as being easy driving distance from Royal Serowe, the Khama Rhino Sanctuary and the Tuli Block wildlife reserve.
With its easy accessibility to some of the country’s major tourist attraction, there are plans in place to offer customised game-viewing and hunting safaris and scenic tours and capitalising on its central location the hotel is also poised to host major regional conferences and functions.
From the outset, through design and construction stages to finished structure and opening, the emphasis has been on generating employment and income for the surrounding community and boosting the local economy.
Locally-quarried stones were sourced for the poolside paving and local carpenters and artisans fashioned much of the patio furniture and thatched lapas.
During the construction phase a large number of direct and indirect jobs were created and once fully up and running the hotel will have 100 permanent staff members, with an additional reserve staff roster for larger conferences and functions. With a burgeoning commercial district, Palapye is currently undergoing a major expansion and transformation and the Majestic Five is a visible sign of the town’s changing face and fortune.
With the first phase completed on schedule, the Majestic Five opened its doors in early December 2011, with an initial 88 luxuriously appointed rooms available.
The sophisticated grill restaurant, up and running in time for the busy Christmas season, offers a choice of international buffet or fusion a la carte menu, under the supervision of renowned local chef George Hossack.
The hotel is promising a tantalising line-up of live entertainment and fun-filled family functions throughout the year, kicking off with a selection of romantic Valentine’s specials, closely followed by a host of Easter treats for young and old alike.
