ECCO CITY GREENS
New coach Chris Tembo has a tough task of turning his side into a winning side following the departure of striker Bonolo Fraizer who is joining Nico United in Selebi-Phikwe. There is also uncertainty surrounding speedy winger Mandlaenkosi ‘Sukunyetsa’ Sibanda who is wanting out at the club. Sibanda is on the wanted list of Extension Gunners and there is a high possibility that he may link up with his former coach Maxwell Moyo. At the present moment what is delaying Sibanda’s move to Lobatse is that he is still to agree personal terms with the club. A number of key players might also seek greener pastures before the end of transfer window.
BDF XI
Captain Mompati Thuma has returned from trials in South Africa and will stay at BDF XI for the coming season. This is good news for coach Nelson Setshwane who has just taken over the reins at the army side. Setshwane is said to have recommended former Gaborone United coach, Letang ‘Rasta’ Kgengwenyane, as his assistant for the new season. Though nobody wanted to confirm it, the announcement is on hold until the club’s chairman returns. Goalkeeper Basimanebotlhe ‘Cheeseboy’ Moilwa is headed to Extension Gunners as he continues to be frustrated by lack of game time at the club since joining from Naughty Boys.
GABORONE UNITED
The Reds unveiled big plans for the future during their press conference on Tuesday in Gaborone. Amongst other things, the club announced that they will build a stadium somewhere in the city and they are currently waiting for permission from the Ministry of Lands for the green light. Gaborone United has also announced the signing of former Uniao Flamengo Santos midfielder Bakang Moeng and Mochudi Centre Chiefs goalkeeper Noah Maposa. Former BDF XI and Township Rollers defender Gaopatwe ‘Shoes’ Seosenyeng has landed at the Money Machine.
EXTENSION GUNNERS
Newly-elected chairman William Maboane arrived in Gaborone on Thursday and is expected to take charge of the team. Maboane was elected in absentia at the club’s general assembly last weekend as he was in Malaysia.
Gunners held talks with TASC central defender Vincent Pusoeng but he is unlikely to sign as they face tough competition from Great North Tigers. Gunners’ planned pre-season friendly game against South African Premier League side Jomo Cosmos next weekend is in doubt. This comes after some of the people who were spear-heading the negotiations were elected out last weekend. Ofentse Mmipi and Hendrick Moyo are said to have committed their future to Extension Gunners. This comes after reports linking them to cross town rivals BMC.
TOWNSHIP ROLLERS
Coach Wesley Mondo is back in the country after spending sometime in Zambia where he was undergoing C-Licence coaching course. But his future at the club remains in doubt as they are reports that Rollers want to replace him.
Mapalastina have opened negotiations with right-back Simisane Mathumo who is out of contract. Mathumo is said to be on the wanted list of bitter rivals Mochudi Centre Chiefs but he is likely to stay with the league champions.
Two Zambian youngsters Bernard Mapuli and Gift Lukwesa are undergoing trials at the club and their future will only be known this week after thorough assessment. Nigerian Monday Joseph is also being assessed by the league champions and he might be signed.
MOCHUDI CENTRE CHIEFS
Goalkeeper Mompoloki ‘Wrist’ Sephekolo’s future at the club is uncertain. The talented goalkeeper played second to Noah Maposa last season and he is said to have expressed desire to move to another club where he will enjoy enough game time. Sephekolo might consider staying at Magosi if Maposa’s move to Gaborone United materialises.
Zambian youngsters Simon Nkhoma and Luka Zulu are undergoing trials at the club under the watchful eye of coach Madinda Ndlovu. The duo arrived in the country on Monday night and started training with Chiefs on Tuesday. The Zambians took part in the friendly game against Police XI on Thursday afternoon in Otse.
BMC
Head coach Daniel ‘Chicco’ Nare is leaving for the Netherlands early next month to attend a coaching course. His trip has been made possible by his employers. He is likely to miss three league matches but in his absence his newly-appointed assistant Tlhalefang ‘Sheleng’ Mogorosi will be in charge. Mogorosi joins the Lobatse side from Mochudi Centre Chiefs who he accuses of not treating him well during his stay there.
New players Kemmy Pilato, Lesego Lubinda and Hillary Madzivayika were presented to the media on Wednesday afternoon at Cumberland Hotel in Lobatse. Another player Sageby Sandaka missed the press conference but he has committed his future to the club.
