Masisi walks diplomatic tightrope on Israel-Palestine conflict

Botswana has adopted a principled stance, ostensibly grounded in support of self-determination, freedom, and independence in the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

However, recent developments raise questions about whether Botswana’s commitment to these principles is genuine or if the government is, in fact, hiding behind the United Nations (UN) to avoid taking a more assertive position. The death toll of Palestinians killed by Israel since the beginning of the war in October stood at almost 12,000 at the time of going to press.
