Masisi’s pledge to boost GERD to 3% would place Botswana among top 7 global spenders

President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi has pledged to put research at the centre of the economy by raising research funding to 3%. While such a boost would be an overwhelming endorsement of Botswana’s science base, it would also propel Botswana into a small select group of countries known for having a high domestic expenditure on research and development (GERD) of above 3%.
