Meat Corporation of Namibia’s (MeatCo) recent disclosure that it is now directing its attention to Botswana for the supply of offal products were they are likely to sell at higher prices is expected to draw some local clients away from Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) and reduce the parastatal’s revenue base. MeatCo is a meat processing company headquartered in Windhoek and is the largest exporter of prime beef in Namibia.
The news comes at a precarious time for BMC following the recent disclosure in parliament by assistant minister of Agriculture, Molebatsi Molebatsi, that the parastatal made a loss of over P1.5 billion. In 2023, the ministry of agriculture announced that they had taken a decision to bail out BMC.
