Missing teacher found hanging from tree without intestines

After an extensive two-month search, a 37-year-old man who mysteriously went missing in May was found dead a few kilometers away from Mochudi.

Now both the police and the deceased’s family have issued conflicting statements.

The police say the deceased, Shadrek Makobye, who was a school teacher at Seepapitso Secondary School in Kanye, was badly decomposed while the family says the deceased was not yet decomposed but his intestines are missing.

Last Wednesday night, some herd boys found Makobye’s body at the Sebonwane cattle post, about 35 kilometers from Mochudi.

After the discovery of the body, they ran to the main road and stopped a passing vehicle and informed the driver what they had seen in the nearby bush.

The herd boys allegedly did not identify themselves and the police are also looking for them.
Phiem Makobye, a spokesperson of the family, told Sunday Standard that “as the family, we maintain that my brother was murdered”.

He explained that he went to the crime scene just outside Mochudi on Thursday morning with the police where the deceased was found hanging from a tree.

‘What surprised us most is the fact that the deceased was not yet decomposed and there were stains of human blood around the scene,” he said.

He maintained that “it was not a suicide but somebody hanged him”. With tears swelling up in his eyes, he added, “It hurts so much; we did not think that he would die in this manner.”
He appealed to members of the public to assist them with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

Detective Superintendent Phenyoitsile Nnanawakoko of Mochudi Police Station confirmed the discovery.

“The man who went missing for almost two months was found hanging from a tree,” he said. “This is a sensitive matter and we have not yet established the cause of death.”
Nnanawakoko said a post mortem had been conducted but the police were still waiting for the report.
He said cash amounting to P700 was found in one of his legs as well as in the wallet.
Meanwhile during police investigations, a number of people were questioned and the deceased’s wife was detained.

Makobye is expected to be buried today (Sunday) at his home Village in Mochudi.
