The Botswana Football Association (BFA) Chief Executive Officer, Judge Mookodi’s days at Lekidi Centre might be over.
Inside sources say that Mookodi’s probation period came to an end on May 31 and BFA has taken a decision not to continue with him as he has failed to convince the National Executive Committee (NEC) that he is the right man for the job.
Though even today he is still calling the shots at the BFA, sources have revealed that it is a matter of time before his future is sealed.
“He knows his fate and I think the reason why he is still in the office is because the president (David Fani) was attending FIFA Congress. The other issue to keep until now was for him to spearhead the preparations for the Zebras-Malawi game, otherwise he would be out of office,” said a source on Friday.
Sunday Standard learnt that BFA has decided to let Mookodi go because he has failed to take control of the BFA secretariat. It is alleged that some members of staff at BFA, especially those in key positions, do as they please yet Mookodi is supposed to supervise them.
“There is no doubt that he is a good listener but the problem is that he does not have a stand. He is being bullied around by two members of staff (names provided to Sunday Standard) and this has cost him a fortune,” continued the source.
It is further alleged that the other issue, which has cost Mookodi his place at BFA, was when he read the players a riot act before their game against Sweden in Cape Town earlier this year.
Apparently, the players have demanded allowances for the game and the executive was not pleased at the outburst.
“You know sometimes the players are deliberately paid late by the finance office and, as the supervisor, he is supposed to ensure that all goes accordingly. That is one of his major downfalls,” added the inside source. Recently, one member of staff at BFA, Joyce Rankae, resigned from her position and it is said that she was not happy at the work conditions.
The source revealed that, as head of staff, Mookodi is supposed to have intervened because he was seen as an asset to the association.
“Some senior officers are abusing their powers by doing juniors favours. Recently, a receptionist was transferred to the accounts yet she did not have qualifications in accounts. Just because she is a friend to the boss, it was seen appropriate. ┬áThis was where Mookodi was supposed to intervene but he did not,” continued the source.
On Friday, Mookodi seemed to be aware of his position and pleaded with Sunday Standard not to run the story.
“This is a sensitive matter and at the moment we’re in negotiations,” he said before hanging up.
Fani told Sunday Standard upon arrival from the FIFA Congress in Zurich that the NEC is looking into Mookodi’s contractual performance and promised that they will clarify his situation within the shortest possible time.
“At this moment it will not be fair to go into details as we’re still reviewing his performance,” said Fani when pressed to comment on issues which might have pushed them not to hand Mookodi a contract.
The appointment of Mookodi came as a surprise in December as many people questioned his leadership qualities and his knowledge of football politics at Lekidi. But Mookodi promised that he would use his corporate experience to ensure that the association grows but some people say he has not delivered on his promises.
