Mutlichoice Africa has taken the innovation of pay television a notch higher as it introduced a significant number of new channels to their network in high definition from October 1st 2012.
Under the theme, “A movie for every mood’, DSTV also introduced a total of eight genre themed movie channels, which, according to a media release, are “Premiere, Romance and drama, Action plus, comedy, family and showcase”.
“In the last few years, our channel line-up has grown extensively; now, in order to ensure that all channels are included as relevant in the correct genres, a channel renumbering exercise has been undertaken. This will also allow for future channel growth in the different genres,” said Billy Sekgororoane, the Director of MultiChoice Botswana, when briefing the media just before the changes came into force last week.
Sekgororoane pointed out that the primary navigation tool for the these changes is the DSTV remote control, which allows viewers to find what is playing and schedule recordings in their PVR decoders. He assured the viewers that this will not in any way affect subscription fees since they are only reviewed annually and they have already been reviewed.
The communications manager, Tshepo Maphanyane, clarified that these new changes will only be available for the premium bouquet subscribers while the others will not benefit from them.
A new Africa Magic channel was also launched on the October 1st 2012.
Alongside these new additions, there was also a new channel renumbering, also effective from October 1st 2012.
This process entailed regrouping channels of similar content, like grouping cartoons, music, news, entertainment and documentaries together. Some channels have been completely moved, like the popular music channel Mtv, which was moved from the music section to the entertainment section since they realized that the content had since changed from music to other game shows, reality shows and comedies.
Viewers can access up-to-date information, on Channel 198.
